Events are a great way to keep your Members and Community engaged and up to date with the latest exciting happenings.
There are a whole host of ways to create and configure your Events. From making them online only, to specifying a physical location, you can tailor your Event to your Communities needs.
Let's take a look together at how to create an Event.
How to Create Events:
Let's begin by, heading to the Console, selecting Content and then picking on Events from the left hand menu.
This is the Event's main page where you can manage any and all Event's you have created.
Why not check out this article to learn more about this page.
For now, let's press the + Create Event button at the top right of the Events page and we can take a look at the available options you have for your Events. To make it easy, we're going to go through this in two stages.
The Event Details:
The Event details allow you to tell your members all about the Event itself and give them as much information as possible to entice them. Here you can:
-
Add an Image:
- This is an image in a 1:1 ratio and alongside your Event title, it will be what hooks your members before they look into the Event.
-
Add a Title:
- As you guessed, this is the title of your Event – something short and snappy works well here.
-
Add a Livestream:
- If your Event is focused around a Livestream, you can add it to your Event and make it convenient for you and your members to locate it. You can read more about this here.
-
Pick a Date:
- This tells your members when your Event will be.
-
Select a Time:
- You can add a start time for your Event here.
-
Set a Time Zone:
- Adding a time zone is handy for online Events as it allows your global audience to be able to accurately plan when your Event starts. You can read more about this here.
-
Add a Description:
- Time to really sell your Event. What is it about, why will it be incredible and who is hosting it.
-
Online Only or Physical:
- This tells your members if they can relax at home and connect online, or if they need to plan their journeys.
- If your Event is in a physical space, you will also have the option to set an area Location and a Venue name.
Final Flourishes:
In the second half of the page, you can set some final flourishes to your Event to really personalise it and make it exclusive. Let's take a look at what options you have:
- Add a Button:
Here you can create up to three buttons for your Event, setting up links to particular sections of your Community or an external link.
You can make the button only available to paid subscribers, and if the button is linked to an external URL, set it to open within the App.
(It is worth noting that not all external web pages allow the Web platform to open a page using the in-platform browser. Testing this is key.)
- Set Group Access:
Perhaps this is an exclusive Event? In that case, why not make it only accessible to members of specific Groups.
- Do you want an Attendee List:
If your members see other attendees, it might entice them to join too. Alternatively, if it's an exclusive Event, you may not want this list available.
- Scheduling your Event:
So you're super organised and have created the Event ahead of time, but you're not quite ready to share it with your Community. You can schedule when the Event is published to your Community.
Once you've set up your new Event, make sure to press Create Event at the bottom of the page!
Deleting an Event:
Plans change, and sometimes an Event needs to be cancelled, so let's take a look at how best to delete an Event.
From the Events page, locate the Event in question and tap the pencil icon on the right of the Event listing. This will allow you to edit the Event and delete it.
Scroll down to the bottom of the Event, and you will see the option to Delete Event. Once you are certain that you want to get rid of this Event forever, press the button and then confirm your decision in the pop-up window.
That's it, your Event has been deleted and it is no longer visible for you or your Community.
