Live-streaming is a great way to bring Communities closer together, and provide members with a more personal experience. Let's take a look at how this works.
Before you Begin:
The first thing you need to do to ensure that a user can Livestream, is to enable the Livestreaming option for them in The Console. Find out more about this here.
Starting The Livestream:
Open your app, and go into the Group that you want to Livestream from.
Tap the plus icon to create a new post and you will see the Go Live! option:
Press the Go Live!, and you will be taken to the Livestream view. You will initially be placed in Portrait View, however, if you don't want this, simply rotating the screen to Landscape will offer you the option to change the orientation.
Alternatively, if you have added a Livestream link to an Event, you can head to the Event and start the Livestream there. You can read more about this here.
On the iOS App, the screen will re-orientate itself automatically.
On Android, you will be presented with the option to change the orientation in bottom left corner of the screen.
Once you're in the Livestream view, you're ready to go into Standby, simply tap Notify Members.
This means that members of the Group will receive a push notification letting them know that a Livestream is about to start.
It's good to note that at this point, you're not Live and you can see this from the Off icon in the top left corner.
In the bottom right corner, you can see the number of people who have joined and are waiting for you to go live.
When you're ready to start streaming, press the red button to Go Live button to start going Live.
During the Livestream:
During the stream members are able to send live comments in the chat – their comments will pop up on the right-hand side of your screen (in landscape mode).
From left to right you can:
- Turn off the camera.
- Turn off the microphone.
- Rotate the view from front camera to back camera using the camera icon in the bottom left-hand corner.
- Close the comments section.
- See the members that have joined.
- Comment and Post it.
Remember that there'll be a 10-15 seconds latency delay on your livestream.
Ending The Livestream:
When you've reached the end of your Livestream, press the X at the top of the screen to trigger a pop-up message asking you to confirm that you want to end the Livestream.
Once you have confirmed this, you will be asked if you want to Post the Livestream into the Group you have Livestreamed from. Pressing Cancel will take you back to the Posts.
If you'd like to edit the livestream or upload it elsewhere, the recording will be available in the Console for you to download and re-upload later and can also be saved to your camera roll on your device.
(The Livestream section can be found in the Console, by clicking on Content and then Livestream)
Top Tips:
- Once you are in Standby mode, you will begin recording the livestream. So make sure you're in full presenter mode before you go into Standby!
- Allow up to 60 seconds wait time before you go live, to give members an opportunity to join the Livestream.
