Live Streaming with RTMP allows for a more flexible, and personal experience. Let's go!
Live-streaming is a great way to bring members together and give them that personal experience.
RTMP Live-streaming is a Web only option that allows you to take your Livestream to that next step, allowing for a more professional experience. It is also highly customisable and flexible, meaning that Livestreams can be set up in multiple ways.
Please note that RTMP Live-streaming is an optional addition to your Community package – if you are unsure if you have access to this, please reach out to your Customer Success Manager or Support Team.
Can I Livestream Without RTMP?
Yes, you can also Livestream from your mobile App or the Web Platform itself:
What Third Party Platforms can I use?
There are multiple Livestream services available, some free and some paid. Here is a list of some options that you can explore (although other services are also available):
How to Livestream via RTMP:
User Permissions:
Live-streaming requires that the member has been granted the following permissions:
- Is a Group Admin of the Group they are attempting to Livestream to.
- Has been granted the permission setting to Livestream.
You can learn more about permissions and how to set them here.
Going Live!
Now that your account has the correct permissions, open a Live-streaming service that supports RTMP.
As all services require a slightly different setup process, here are some how-to guides for some popular streaming services:
Next, head to your Community and begin a Post. From here, you will select the Group you want to Livestream to and you will a small camera icon is available – let's click this to start going live!
Pressing the Notify Members button will send a notification to your members and also place your Livestream into Standby Mode.
At this point, any members that join will not see the Livestream as it hasn't started yet in your Community – however, be mindful that it's at this point that your Livestream is being recorded (we'll come back to this later).
Finally, pressing the Go live button will send the Livestream from the RTMP software to your Community starting this for your Community.
While streaming, comments will be displayed in real-time onto the Live-streaming page. From here, you will be able to interact and reply to your members throughout the Livestream.
How do I Stop Live-streaming Through RTMP?
Once the Livestream has come to an end, it will need to be stopped in the Community and on the RTMP software through a few simple steps.
Click the End Livestream button in the Community which will end the Livestream to your Community but will not stop the stream from your streaming platform.
You will then need to go into your RTMP streaming platform and end the stream from there. This will completely stop the stream.
Once the Livestream has ended, you will be given the option to Post the stream to a Group – however, do not forget that the recording includes the time between going into standby mode and actually going live to your Community.
If you're not sure that you want to share those few moments, then you can choose to not Post the Livestream and instead download the video file when it's ready, edit it and then make an individual Post with it. You can learn more about where to do this here.
